News; 2015-16 Atletico Madrid Away Kits #1 Moyà

Published: Wednesday 11 May, 2016

UEFA EURO 2016 France™ commences next month (June 10 to July 10), and aside from the FIFA World Cup™, this quadrennial tournament is regarded as the biggest event in men’s soccer. For the first time 24 teams (expanded from the previous 16-team structure) will battle to topple two-time defending champions Spain and prevail in Paris. This week, we look to one of the world’s soccer hubs, a country whose passion for the game goes back centuries: Italy. We will feature the Italian side’s captain, Gianluigi Buffon, and their rising global star France’s Paul Pogba.

If ever you’re asked to name the best goalkeeper of all time, 2015-16 Atletico Madrid Away Kits no one can tell you that you’re wrong if you say “Gianluigi Buffon.” At age 38 (some statistics have suggested that the “peak age” for a soccer player is between 27-29) he continues to be solid as ever between the posts, still at the top of his trade.

This consistency is one of the elements contributing to his renowned status within the ever-changing world of soccer. His agility and strength and hard to match, and coupled with his large, intimidating size, he can make acrobatic dives with ease and effectively stop penalties.

Buffon has made up for any slight declines in physicality throughout his career by perfecting his positioning, ball distribution and decision-making. He can read the field better than most and brings unrivaled intangibles to the filed. He’s the unquestioned captain for his club and beloved country, Italy.

“The best goalkeeper I have ever faced was Buffon. When I was at Juventus, it was already difficult to get past (Fabio) Cannavaro and (Lillian) Thuram in defense during training sessions. If I managed to get past them, then I would find Buffon, and it was almost impossible to beat him!”

Pogba, A.K.A. Il Polpo Paul (“Paul the Octopus”) A.K.A. “Pogboom,” has earned not only impressive nicknames, but a resume at age 23 that most men Buffon’s age would trade their career to obtain. His “Paul the Octopus” moniker pays homage to the beloved octopus who correctly predicted the outcomes of Euro 2008 matches in which the German national team was playing, as well as Pogba’s long legs. “Pogboom” appropriately refers to his explosive energy onfield and the charge he can put into a thunderous shot from 35 yards outside goal.

He has been called “powerful, skillful, and creative” by former powerhouse club Manchester United, and in 2013 he won the “Golden Boy” award, which is awarded to the best under-21 player in Europe. The following year, he won the “Bravo Award” granted to the best under-23 player in Europe.

“Pogboom” even adorns the left heel of his newly released, limited edition adidas PURECONTROL cleats. Read more, learn what “Pogbance means,” and see more photos of these beautiful boots here.
