News; NIKE MERCURIALX AND MAGISTAX REVIEW

Published: Monday 17 October, 2016

Nike footballX brought the same innovation and technology to the five-a-side game that you could get in their game changing firm ground models.

The Mercurial and the Magista were two of the first FG cleats released to the public to feature a collar, and also one of the first small sided as well. The MercurialX and MagistaX have revolutionized the small sided game, allowing you the same type of quality you find on the fields, brought to the courts.

The original MercurialX featured a barefoot feel, much like you find in the firm ground variation. You had a coated Flyknit upper, which broke in pretty well. It was slightly stiffer than its firm ground counterpart, but for small sided it was great.

The new MercurialX has a little more to the upper, giving you more control, while still maintaining that explosive feel that the Mercurial is known for. The speed ribs on the upper help to keep you locked in and stable, while still maintaining a lot of control in small spaces. The addition of the speed ribs also adds a little more padding than the previous installment, which to me, makes it much more comfortable.

The new outsole has been redesigned as well. Now built to aid with speed and quickness on the court, the outsole is meticulously engineered to grip during every sprint, cut, and plant.

The MagistaX takes on the shape of the newest model, adopting the textured upper and collar as well. The first iteration of the MagistaX had a nice padded upper that broke in very well during play, and a Luneron outsole that helped to cushion every step on the court.

The new model has taken all these great innovations and made them even better. The upper is still quite padded, giving you a super soft touch on the ball, while the new texture creates the perfect control surface. The Luneron midsole is more cushioned now, allowing you to play harder for longer.

The outsole on the MagistaX has also been redone to play to the controlling player. The new outsole has been designed to grip the court, while still allowing you to turn easily with the ball.

The MercurialX and the MagistaX both have gone through quite the upgrades over the past year, and their newest iterations are key pieces for the small sided game. With indoor soccer, futsal, and five-a-side becoming more and more popular, everyone needs a little SCCRX in their corner to give you the advantage over your opponent.
